Fork Real Community Café was founded in 2017 by Rhonda, a former elementary school teacher. After realizing that Hunger exits among some of our youngest generation, she began to research how a Pay-What-You-Can Café could make a difference in Rapid City. Through collaboration with other community organizations, Rhonda soon became a member of Rapid City Collective Impact’s Food Security Oversight Committee, focused on improving Food Security and reducing hunger. In January 2017, Rhonda called seven close friends to the table to share this vision. At the end of that meeting, one friend says, “Are you for real? You’re going to leave your career to pursue this passion?” That “for real” became the catalyst for the name of the café, Fork Real Community Café. Real People, Real Food, Real Conversation.
